Not knowing Springsteen or Talking Heads isn't an historical issue. Students just don't know anything. Most of my students don't know Wilco or The Decemberists or anyone else very current either.
I've don't know if I'd call myself a huge fan of Springsteen's, though I have a profound respect for his music. I just know too many people who are real fans, which makes me aware that I just like his music. I have seen him live a few times now and he's always put on a great show.
I'm a huge fan. :) Glad to admit it. His last tour "Devils and Dust" was truly remarkable. A one man three hour show.
His lyrics just get better and better. He is the poet of our era. And of course, I "found" the Boss in college, back when "the River" was a new album. :) And now you know my age!
ack! Phantom Scribbler and her kids would like this!!
Are they Springsteen fans? These are on the bulletin board in my office, and students often ask, "who's that"?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Wow, you sure are one major fan!
(It really upset me when Flavia reported that her students didn't know the Talking Heads either.)
