Honestly, I'm a little afraid to guess. The picture looks disturbing whatever it is. It's not the bottom of an ashtray is it?

snow...and perhaps someone dropped a lot of change? then picked it up?
Hair on the floor at a salon? Looks like there's quite a bit of it, though.
i'm going with scrivener. but i'll say it's where people have put out their cigarettes on a painted surface, like a wall or ledge or something.
But Jayfish and Scrivener come close. This was the top of the tank of a toilet in the ladies' room of bar where my sister is a bartender, and the marks are where folks have left their cigs while they tend to other business.
Disturbing and more than a little nasty, the "ashtray / toilet" (not my sister!).
I kept coming back today just to find out what that was.
Now I am wishing I hadn't.

Ewww. Remind me never to go there. I liked it better when I thought it was snow. :)
Seriously? I find the picture just a little bit less disgusting knowing that it's just the back of a toilet, because really when I look at this image it seems so threatening and subtly violent.
