Project 365: May Mosaic
Thursday, May 31, 2007
I have to ask this question about May's Project 365: What happened to the month? Although I took photographs, none of them seem really inspired, but almost all of them-- in some way-- are dissertation related. I guess that's where the month went, to the diss. I pride myself at being able to connect things that don't really connect, but even I can't find too much other than that to connect this month. But then, maybe that's enough. However, as I look at these images there are a few I really like: the man's hand with the two rings, the squirrel, the turtle head, the young women jumpking, the three biceps, and the lifeguard. Maybe I need to look a bit more at people and animals . . . and the odd things they do. Maybe next month. Anyway, here's to June and a more inspired Project 365!

148/365: Stevie Wonder at Bat
Monday, May 28, 2007
I know the can says "Reggie's Baseball Style Peanuts," but it looks lilke Stevie Wonder at bat. A trip through the dollar store today reminded me that it's an American holiday: Memorial Day. So many things were red, white, and blue. Even cheese zip and moth balls. (See Flickr.)

As I was walking down the hall today, I noted this happening in the University's diving pool. She didn't need to be looking at me, but focusing on her "victim." (She ultimately had to do it again.)

133/365: Mother's Hands
Sunday, May 13, 2007
Today at the university baseball game, I spotted a grandmother, her daughter (it seemed), and the grandaughter. They all have very similar hands. This is the Mother. The entire set is on Flickr.
132/365: Cigarette Machine: Someone Wanted the Winstons
Saturday, May 12, 2007
When I was a very young girl, these machines seemed to be everywhere: on the corner, in restaurants, in grocery stores. I remember purchasing cigarettes for my parents using this type of vending machine. While it's not in the picture, there is a small metal sign on this machine-- directly above the coin slot (coins!?!?!)--"it is against the law for minors to use this machine." I suppose my parents were encouraging me to break the law. But, this was also about the time that candy cigarettes were popular for children: white stick candy with a red "dot" on the end . . . signifying a lit cigarette.
On Saturday, a friend and I went to a place in town where the remnants of old houses, demolished or abandoned, are stored. These are very old items . . . and very very interesting. It was like an antique mall {{{{shudder}}}}, but with better stuff: doors, fireplaces, hanging lamps, mailboxes, some household decorations, very old appliances (an old "ice box," the kind that held large blocks of ice to keep the food cool). Very interesting. The other pics are on Flicrk.

126/365: Football Players at Homecoming
Sunday, May 6, 2007
Ok, this isn't my picture. But I did take a picture of this beautiful photograph. The sepia print is of footballl players and their girlfriends during high school homecoming, in Fort Worth, at some point during the 1960s. I don't know much more than this (yet), but I wonder what happened to these people. I wonder if these students would have been / could have been my students. Props: Calvin Littlejohn.

The lizard, the frog, and the peacock are my favorite necklaces as I wear them all the time. Why is this today's photo? I bought another one. This series will also be known as "why I never have any money."
